How to register

Register
to drive.

Every driver registers through NASA, the National Auto Sport Association. That's how the event is insured, so there's no way around it. The good news: it's a one-time membership each year, then a few clicks per event.

Four steps

Account. Event.
Waiver. Show up.

Ten minutes the first time. After that, registering for a round takes a couple of minutes on your phone.

  1. Get a NASA membership.

    Go to drivenasa.com and create an account. You do not need to buy the annual membership. However if you plan to drive all the events (or any other NASA sanctioned events) it WILL SAVE YOU $$$ as there the cost is 10% higher without the membership. The memberships runs about $79 a year and again covers every NASA event you enter, not just ours.

  2. Find the event.

    In NASA's event list, look for NASA at Thunderdome under NASA Drift / South Dakota Drift, on the dates from our schedule. Pick the round you want. Both days of a weekend are the same event.

  3. Register and sign the waiver.

    Choose your days, pay the entry, and sign the waiver online. You must be 18 to drive. Ages 16–17 need a parental consent form filled out and signed, plus a parent present at the event. Ages 14–15 are special consideration only, so email Kris before you register.

  4. Show up ready.

    Rear-wheel-drive car, Snell SA2020–2025 helmet. Roll in at 7 AM-7:30am, find the SDDRIFT booth get your tech sheet and you will get instructions for the tech line (Tech is 8AM-9AM), 9AM make the driver meeting, and drive from 10 to 5. Night Drift rounds run again from 7 PM to midnight unless other wise stated.

Good to know

The stuff people ask about.

  • Watching is free. Bring a chair. It's loud, so bring ear plugs too.
  • Ride-alongs are $10 for a weekend bracelet. Best way to find out if this is for you.
  • Tire machine on site, free to use. Bring your own tires.
  • Two courses set up at the Thunderdome, with pit space inside the building or outside.
  • Rain or shine. We drive either way.
  • Staying the weekend? RV hookups and cabins are right there at Kickstart Travel Center.

Do I need the NASA membership for just one event?
No, but the cost will be higher to non NASA members
Can I register at the gate on the day?
Yes but the cost is higher after the preregistration date. If you register online ahead of time. It saves you standing in line at 7 AM, and it means your waiver and membership are already sorted. If you're stuck, email kriswcudmore@yahoo.com before event day.
I'm under 18. Can I drive?
16 and 17: yes, with a parental consent form filled out and signed and a parent present at the event. 14 and 15: special consideration only, so contact Kris first. Under 14: not yet, but come watch.
Do I have to be fast or good?
No. Most of our events are practice days and non-competitive. Start slow, learn the course, and ask for help. Everybody in the pits was new once.
